SATV, Kathmandu, Sept.28- Ten people have died and one person remains missing after being buried in landslides following continuous rainfall in Baglung.

The district suffered massive loss of life over the last two days, with nine fatalities and one person reported missing on Sunday alone. One casualty was reported on Saturday.

According to Superintendent of Police Phanindra Prasai, chief of the District Police Office in Baglung, four deaths and one missing case were reported in Tamankhola Rural Municipality, while five deaths occurred in Nisikhola Rural Municipality on Sunday.

In Tamankhola Rural Municipality-3, Dharnasuk, 80-year-old Buddhiraj Gharti and 66-year-old Bhimdevi Gharti died when a landslide buried their home. The landslide swept away eight houses in the same village.

In Tamankhola Rural Municipality-4, Santar, 50-year-old Hastabir Sripali and 65-year-old Udisara Sripali were killed when their house was buried by a landslide. Hastabir’s wife went missing in the same incident.

In Nisikhola Rural Municipality-3, Haddhara of Jugjakhola, four members of a single family died when their home was buried by a landslide. The deceased have been identified as 36-year-old Shyamkumari BK, her 13-year-old son Manoj, eight-year-old son Mukesh, and three-year-old son Nishan BK.

Likewise, in Nisikhola Rural Municipality-6, Rangil, 50-year-old Suryabahadur Gharti died after a landslide buried a cowshed.

On Saturday, 59-year-old Manbahadur Roka was killed when a landslide buried a house in Tarakhola Rural Municipality-5, Dhasmar.

According to Chief District Officer of Baglung, Krishna Prasad Acharya, early warnings helped prevent further casualties.

A team of security officials, supported by a Nepali Army helicopter, reached the affected areas to carry out rescue operations.
