SATV, Kathmandu, July. 09 - The iconic Nathan Phillips Square is gearing up to host one of the summer’s most vibrant cultural spectacles.

 Nepali Canadian Community Services (NCCS) will present the 18th Annual Himalayan Mela, marking an incredible 20-year journey of bringing Nepal’s rich culture, flavours and traditions to the heart of Toronto on 8 August.

Over the past two decades, the Himalayan Mela has evolved from a small community gathering into a major multicultural celebration.

 This year, organisers are expecting more than 10,000 attendees, including local residents, members of diverse ethnic communities and high-profile dignitaries.

One of the Mela's defining attractions has always been its musical legacy, having welcomed virtually every major Nepali artist over the years. 

Continuing this proud tradition, this year’s headline performance will feature the hugely popular Nepali singer Prakash Saput.

 Visitors will also enjoy traditional cultural dances, authentic Nepali cuisine and a colourful array of community stalls.

NCCS has become deeply rooted in community service, providing vital integration support for newcomers, programmes for senior citizens and civic engagement initiatives throughout the year.

In April, the City of Toronto officially passed a historic motion declaring April as Nepali Heritage Month. The milestone recognises the lasting social, economic and cultural contributions of Nepali Canadians.

For the Nepali diaspora, as well as food and music enthusiasts across the Greater Toronto Area, the 18th Himalayan Mela promises to be a vibrant celebration of Nepal’s heritage and a powerful reminder that, although they are thousands of miles from the Himalayas, Nepal remains deeply embedded in the heart of Canada.
