Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in China on Tuesday for a two-day state visit, where Chinese President Xi Jinping held a grand official welcome ceremony in Beijing.
The visit comes less than a week after U.S. President Donald Trump concluded his China trip, drawing significant international attention to the growing diplomatic engagements between major global powers.
On Wednesday morning, Xi Jinping welcomed Putin at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing with full state honors. The ceremony included a military band performance, honor guards, and a formal inspection of the People’s Liberation Army honor guard by the two leaders. The Chinese and Russian national flags were displayed prominently as both presidents greeted officials from their respective delegations.
Following the ceremony, Xi and Putin held bilateral talks focusing on strengthening the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership. According to Chinese officials, the discussions covered cooperation in trade, energy, technology, infrastructure, and international affairs.
This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation. The treaty emphasized principles including non-alliance, non-confrontation, and mutual respect for territorial sovereignty. Originally signed for a 20-year period, it was officially renewed in 2021.
