Why Was Bollywood Actor Imran Khan Ordered to Leave India?
Everest, Kathmandu, October 15- Mumbai Police have reportedly directed Bollywood actor Imran Khan, nephew of actor Aamir Khan, to leave India by October 28 after he participated in a protest against the Election Commission at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai.
The protest was held to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police took Khan into custody during the demonstration and subsequently initiated action against him.
Khan is an American citizen and holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.
According to Mumbai Police, Khan is not an Indian citizen, and action has been initiated against him under immigration laws because he participated in a protest despite being a foreign national.
Under the relevant legal framework, the Indian government can impose various conditions on the stay and activities of foreign nationals in the country.
BJP Leader Demands Deportation
Earlier, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Kirit Somaiya had written to Mumbai Police seeking action against Khan for participating in a demonstration organized in support of the CJP, despite being a foreign national.
In his letter, Somaiya questioned whether foreign nationals were legally permitted to participate in such protests in India. He urged the police to investigate whether Khan had obtained prior permission to take part in the demonstration and to take appropriate action if necessary.
Somaiya also called for Khan’s immediate deportation through social media posts.
The case has drawn attention to the legal restrictions that may apply to foreign nationals participating in political demonstrations in India.
